As the term suggests, leadership relates to one’s ability to lead a group or an organisation. As human beings, we can either set an example for others to follow and lead in the world we live in or we can simply follow others and get inspired by them.
Leadership skills are very important for an organisation’s success. Good leaders are not only able to create teams but they also know how to strengthen them. As such, they are in a better place to acknowledge what initiatives need to be taken to complete a project successfully.
As a matter of fact, leadership skills comprise of multiple interpersonal and communication skills. However, it is possible for anyone to develop and exercise such skills with practice.
Leaders often face some common challenges which are as follows-
Staying motivated is one of the biggest challenges that a leader can face especially if things are not working out. If it ever happens with you, remember that it just takes a little effort not to think about stuff which we are not likely to fix and get back on track. You need to think about your team which is expecting you to share your enthusiasm so that they can derive motivation from you and get the desired results.
Being deserving to get respect is another challenge which is faced by almost every leader. It is often difficult to be liked by everyone alike. No matter, what do you, the moment you start leading something, you will attract haters who are ready to ridicule you and knock you down. But, if you don’t get distracted and remain focused and kind, both respect and like will come to you.
Reporting unpleasant news to one’s superiors is another stumbling block for the leaders. It is important to learn to deal with this unpleasant situation and communicate with clarity and no drama so that the next move may be decided.
Dealing with the intra-cultural issues within a team or an organisation is yet another problem that comes in the way of leaders. Leaders have the power and the ability to set a type of work-environment within an organisation. However, sometimes, this can be really difficult. Therefore, it is important for leaders to act the desired way they expect others to act. For instance, if a leader wants to stop the team members from gossiping, he simply needs to apply the same rule for himself.
Well, all it takes is acquiring and mastering leadership skills.
Here is what, Debra Benton, a leading keynote speaker, and a best-selling author says about it:
First, you need to have a good track record. You should be able to contribute to at least one field that can make a difference to your organisation.
Second, you need to be an active listener. Plus, you should also not refrain from asking questions to draw a better picture of what is needed at the top level.
Third, you deserve to be trusted by all.Without, the element of trust, everything else will go in vain.
Next, you need to be visible and stand out.You should be able to break all comfort-zones that may keep you inside. Finally, without trying the hardest possible, you can certainly not expect to reach a top position such as CEO.
To be a world-top leader such as Sundar Pichai(CEO of Google) or Satya Nadella (CEO of Microsoft) ,make sure that you work in these areas-
